The Second Green Media Awards ceremony was held at a local hotel on Friday evening. According to organisers of the event, the awards have been instituted by Tetra Pak Pakistan to recognise the role the media has played in highlighting environment related issues and raising awareness about clean and healthy living to the people of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Azhar Ali Syed, Managing Director, Tetra Pak Pakistan, said "These awards are an acknowledgement of the indispensable role the media has played in Pakistan in highlighting environment-related issues, especially recycling, which improves the environment and is also a viable business, providing financial support and sustainable development to many people associated with it".
He further stated that Tetra Pak's business model is built in a way that the company creates profitable growth in tandem with environmental sustainability. "This is because our packaging material is sustainable by nature and our long term profitable growth is based on sustainable use of renewable natural resources." The winners of the Second Tetra Pak Green Media Awards in different categories were:
ARTICLE (ENGLISH): Aftab Zahoor (First); Fakhra Hasan (Second) News Report (English): Maqbool Ahmed (First); Faiza lIyas (Second).
ARTICLE (URDU): Rizwan Ahmed Tariq (First); Ghulam Mursalin Marwat (Second).
NEWS REPORT (URDU): Shabeena Faraz (First); Arif Mehmood (Second).
PHOTOGRAPHER: Muhammad Fahim Siddiqi (First); Syed Abbas Mehdi (Second).
ELECTRONIC REPORT: Abid Hasan (First); Muhammad Nauman (Second).
The winners of first and second prizes in each category were given a cash prize Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 each, respectively along with a shield. The panel of judges for the Green Media Awards comprised Nisar Zuberi, former Chairman, Department of Mass Communications, Karachi University; journalists Farooq Moin, Ms Ayesha Tammy Haq, Tahir Najmi, and Dr M. Rafiq Khan.
