Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) has said till January 1, 2009 about 974,000 bales of cotton have reached in the ginning factories whereas last year during the same period only 911,000 bales had reached the ginning factories. So an increase of 6.91 per cent has been observed this year in the inflow of cotton bales to ginning factories, it said.
The statistic issued by PCGA here on Sunday said till January 1, 2009, the unsold cotton stock in the ginning factories was 1.96 million bales whereas last year during the same period it was 1.9 million bales. Overall 1009 ginning factories are operational all over the country, out of these 820 ginning factories are located in Punjab whereas 189 ginning factories are working in Sindh. In the ginning factories of southern Punjab, about 5.4 million bales of cotton have reached.
