Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration and Capital police have finalised the security arrangements and the level of security in the Federal Capital is further up-graded in the wake of Ashura processions and Majalis.
The administration and police reviewed the security arrangements in a meeting chaired by the Chief Commissioner ICT Kamran Lashari and attended by Amer Ali Ahmed, SSP Islamabad Captain Ahmad Latif (Retd) and other officials of law enforcing agencies.
The meeting was informed that foolproof and comprehensive security arrangements were in place alongwith contingency plan. A control room was working round the clock in the office of ADC (G) Islamabad to supervise and co-ordinate the security arrangements with all the stakeholders. Deputy Commissioner ICT Amer Ali Ahmed and SSP Islamabad were conducting visits of the routes of processions and majalis to monitor the arrangements.
City hospitals including Pakistan Institute of Medical sciences (Pims), Federal Government Services hospitals (Poly Clinic) and Capital hospital CDA were also on high alert and ambulances of these hospitals including the district health office had been deployed in order to provide the medical cover to the Majalis and processions.
Extra vigilance is being maintained in and around the Majalis and on the routes of the processions in close co-ordination with the local peace committees and organisers of the processions and Majalis in the city and rural areas.
Magistrates, SDPOs and SHOs were in constant touch with the local religious scholars and conducting visits of Majalis to supervise the arrangements. It was decided that all the entry and exit points on the routes of processions would be blocked on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
The district administration was in touch with the IESCO officials for adjusting the load management schedule in the areas and stand by arrangements for generators by the organisers. The meeting was informed that ICT administration had held a detailed meetings with religious scholars of all school of thoughts and a code of conduct agreed upon the scholars was in place for maintaining an atmosphere of brotherhood and religious tolerance. The district administration has banned wall chalking and distribution of objectionable material causing sectarian hatred while entry of few Ulema has been also banned in the Capital.
The meeting was informed that security in the Federal Capital would remain alert during the next 10 days. Police had enhanced patrolling in the area and checking of vehicles at exit and entry points has been further enhanced.
Police in plain cloths had been deployed at the sensitive and public places to keep a vigilant eye in the surroundings. Moreover, heavy contingents of police had also been deployed at the Imambargahs. The main processions will be covered through security cameras, the meeting decided.
