Managing Director Pakistan Baitulmal (PBM) Zamarud Khan has said that PBM would spend about Rs 0.3 million on each patients undergoing treatment for bone marrow transplantation. He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of bone narrow transplant unit at Shifa International Hospital (SIH) here on Monday. Ambassador of Italy, Vicenzo Prati was also present on the occasion.
Zamarud Khan lauded the effort of Shifa International Hospital in establishing such an important unit to treat bone marrow transplant patients, and said that the government also plans to establish such units in different parts of the country. He also suggested setting up projects to cure other diseases like cardio and hepatitis and assured full co-operation by PBM in this regard. "Baitulmal will provide financial assistance to Shifa Hospital to run these projects", he added.
Speaking on the occasion the ambassador of Italy, Vicenzo Prati said that there was a very strong co-operation between Pakistan and Italy in many fields, especially in healthcare. This kind of initiative, he said, should be taken in such countries and also assured his country's support for such projects.
