The Chairperson of the Senates Standing Committee on Education and Science, Senator Razina Alam Khan has said that the Senate committee had received the case of Farah Hameed Dogar and would proceed according to the constitution.
She said the National Assembly standing committee on education was handling this case according to its mandate and could not comment whether that was a right or wrong way.
The Senate Standing Committee Chairperson said this to newsmen after being briefed by the Director General, Urdu Science Board (USB) at board office on Monday. She also said that the committee has recommended to the federal government that Urdu should be given the status of official language. She said that the Senate Standing Committee had also recommended that the science textbooks from matriculation to degree level should be translated into Urdu, as it would also be acceptable for Deeni madaris.
Razina also alleged that the bureaucracy was not willing to implement Urdu as an official language, adding that the nation was now aware and would not let any conspiracy to succeed against Urdu language. 'Only those policies will be implemented, which will represent the voices of the people,' she added.
Earlier, speaking at the briefing session, senator Khan said that a particular lobby was trying not to give Urdu the status of official language and was promoting English. She said Urdu is a rich language and there was a need to translate world acknowledged science books in Urdu for the benefit of local population.
The Senator further said that the Senate Committee had recommended implementing English from Class-I to end class-system but it could not implemented because of the non-availability of English language teachers.
She lauded the initiatives and achievements of the USB and assured that the Senate Committee would advocate Board's issues with the federal education ministry and help get funds to implement the highly important projects including a godown for the storage of Board's published books. Further, she praised the USB for its efforts and lauded it for not asking for development grant for the last many years,
Khan said the ministry should now realise that the USB was demanding development funds to meet pressing needs for its smooth working. She also said that the USB in all the four provinces should be strengthened and their staff must be trained properly.
The Director General, USB, Khalid Iqbal Yasir briefed the Senate Standing Committee about Board's history, aims and objectives, activities and achievements as well as new projects and initiatives. Senators, Tahira Latif, Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, Syed Javed Ali Shah, Ammar Ahmad Khan, Dr Muhammad Said, Liaqat Ali Bangulzai, Sajid Mir and Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan attended the meeting.
