Multan Police, as per directives of the CCPO, Syed Saud Aziz, were warned to be on the alert, ordered to deploy additional forces at sensitive places to carry out security checks more effectively during Muharram. The CCPO has appealed to people to co-operate with the police to ensure tranquillity and sectarian harmony during the sacred month.
He requested the citizens to avoid making prank calls keeping in view the sanctity of Muharram. He also directed the Town SPs to keep the security tight at hotels and areas under their jurisdiction. He asked the hotel and guesthouse owners not to rent rooms without a copy of customer's computerised identity card.
The CCPO has also ordered deployment of policemen at government buildings, bus and wagon stands and trade centres and to check people at entry and exit points of the city. He also requested the people to report to police about suspects and abandoned vehicles.
Further, Army troops and contingents of civil armed forces including Pakistan Rangers were deployed in all 13 districts of Southern Punjab as part of the Muharram security arrangement.
Aziz said that security rangers have been deployed around the province on Monday. He said that the arrangements have been made on the orders of the District Co-ordinating Officer, Divisional commissioner, Towns and District Nazims and DPOs of these districts.
Further, he said that troops have been deployed as per directives given by the Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif in Sargodha, Gujranwala, Narowal, Muzaffargarh, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalnagar, Mianwali, Khanewal, Attock, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Nankana, Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, Jhang, Multan, Bhakkar, Sialkot and Gujrat. The CM has also directed all inspectors general of police, commissioners, regional police officers, district co-ordination officers, district nazims and district police officers across the province to make effective and foolproof security arrangements during Muharram.
