High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Wajid Shamsul Hassan has said that Pakistan is ready to cope with any foreign aggression. Talking to a private TV channel, he said the entire nation would defend and offer every sacrifice for the homeland in case of any transgression by India. He said Pakistan had offered all possible co-operation in the investigations into the Mumbai incident to trace culprits behind the tragic happening.
India should have welcomed Pakistan's offer but instead the tone of the Indian leadership gradually became stiffer to the extent that they started issuing threatening statements, he said. He urged India to cooperate with Pakistan as terrorism was a grave problem for both the countries.
He recalled that President Asif Ali Zardari addressed a video conference on November 22 last year and made significant gestures including no first strike on nuclear installations and development of bilateral trade and economic co-operation. He regretted that India had not reciprocated to these offers. To a question he said some hidden hands did not want normalisation of relations between the two countries and they were apparently involved in the Mumbai attacks.
"It seems that some elements of vested interests don't want peace between Pakistan and India and these elements have succeeded in their objective as composite dialogue has been suspended", he said. To another question he said Mumbai incident was a big intelligence failure of India as American intelligence had already warned India about possibility of such attack.
