The Supreme Court on Thursday took suo moto notices in the public interest and issued direction for the concerned officials to submit detailed reports of the incidents. Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar took suo moto notice in response to a news item disclosing the existence of many private jails and torture cells of Islamabad Police at Barakahu, Karachi Company and Meer Abadia where suspicious persons/illegally detained persons were tortured.
The report also alleged that many police officers involved in heinous cases were appointed in police stations such as Inspector Malik Tahsin, Police Station Kohsaar, involved in murder case and SIP Abdul Ghafoor of Police Station Shahzad Town, involved in a rape case. The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar directed IG Islamabad to submit the report on January 26.
The CJ also took notice of the application of Rashida Begum requesting therein that her son named Aamir Murtaza was taken away by Police Officers in plain clothes on March 23, 2008 from her house situated in Mohan Pura. She further reported that on her intervention they allegedly showed her son's involvement in terrorist activities and further told that they had taken him away only for interrogation.
She further alleged that although 8 months have been passed yet her son has not been released. The Chief Justice directed Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi to probe into the matter and submit detailed report about the incident through DPO Rawalpindi on January 27, in the Supreme Court.
