Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna has said that a separate medical college would be set up for the children of workers while scholarship will be awarded to talented students to study abroad. He was addressing a ceremony arranged to distribute merit certificates among the workers' children, who were nominated for admission in medical colleges.
The Commissioner, Punjab Social Security, Imran Nasir Khan, Medical Advisor, Dr Pervez Imtiaz and Dr Pasha were also present on the occasion. The Minister said that free education is being imparted to the children of labourers. Further, he said that seats for higher professional education would also be reserved in all the educational institutions and special campaign would be launched to create awareness among workers' children regarding the importance of education.
Punjab Minister also said that a total grant of Rs 631 million has been given to the industrial workers during the last six months. He stressed upon the students to devote their energies for education and come up to the expectations of their elders. 'We are proud of our labourers, who are working day and night for the progress and prosperity of the country,' he praised. Later, the Minister distributed admission letters among the students.
