US rough rice futures on the Chicago Board of Trade ended higher on Friday, rebounding from this week's slide in pre-holiday trade, traders said. CBOT markets will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King Day, reopening for the electronic session Monday 6 pm CST. March rice ended 13-1/2 cents up at $13.64-1/2 per hundredweight. May was up 15 at $13.81.
Volume was moderate estimated at 518 futures. Only five options traded. A weaker dollar was supportive as it makes US commodities cheaper to importers. India has allowed exports of non-basmati rice totalling 55,000 tonnes to four African nations. India banned non-basmati rice exports in April.
