Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has taken notice of hike in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices and directed Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to hold meeting with stakeholders to propose measures to bring down the prices. Sources said that a high-level meeting will be held in Ogra office today (Tuesday).
On the directions of the Prime Minister, Ogra acting chairman Rashid Farooq and executive director Javed Nazeer held meeting with LPG Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar on Monday and assured him to bring down the prices within a week.
Khokhar informed Ogra chairman that the LPG marketing companies have made a cartel that resulted in increase in LPG prices. He asked the authorities to cancel the licence of those companies that were involved in cartelisation and fleecing consumers. He informed Ogra chairman that the domestic cylinder is available at Rs 1200 in the market and demanded to compel the allottees of local LPG companies to import 100 percent LPG according to their quota.
