Youth, mainly comprising students from different private and public sector colleges and universities of the metropolis here on Monday took out a rally to protest against destruction of "Girls Schools" in Swat. The rally that walked through Punjab Chowrangi, Clifton block eight, Super Market to Boat Basin was led by Syed Rafiq Shah, Vice Chairman, Sahar Foundation.
Girls as well as boys students, teachers and members of civil society, protested against harassment of teachers and parents of girls and bombardments of school, depriving children and youth, in Swat, of their basic right. The protestors chanted slogans against perpetrators of a grave crime, that too under false pretext of religion.
Professor Maria Ehtesham, a participant of the rally said destruction of schools and campaign against girl education is in itself "Un-Islamic." She said it could not be considered a "Jihad" as Islam approves equal opportunities of education for girls.
The university teacher enquired, as how come disciple and followers of Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (Peace be upon Him) were being prohibited while the Prophet had expected them to even far off countries like China in quest of knowledge and education.
It is also beyond comprehension as how sons and daughters of many of the so-called leaders were acquiring education abroad while they have failed to prevail upon anti-social elements keen to prevent children of commoners from secular education. Syed Rafiq Shah appealed to the religious scholars and leaders of religious as well as political parties to condemn the wrongdoing of anti-social elements in Swat.
