Senior Minister, Raja Riaz Ahmad has said the government is spending an amount of Rs 1.90 billion on livestock sector development for giving sufficient facilities to the rural population to help increase the production of milk, eggs and meat. He was talking to the representatives of various organisations working in the livestock sector, farmers and poultry developers, at his office, here on Tuesday.
Officials of Irrigation and Pida were also present on the occasion. He said that effective measures were already in progress to increase production of milk, eggs and meat in the province for meeting up the food needs of increasing population. Livestock sector caters to the food needs of the people, he said. Livestock is increasingly becoming a very important sector of national economy, contributing even more than other agricultural crops combined.
Government is striving to ensure growth and development of livestock sector in the province thus contributing to national food security, economic uplift, rural development, poverty alleviation, employment generation and foreign exchange earning, he maintained.
He said that plan had been envisaged to provide latest diagnostic and treatment facilities of animals' treatment in the 25 districts of the province with a cumulative amount of Rs 2.21 billion and initially a grant of Rs 90 crore has been provided to launch the project.
