Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) is supplying power to 400 predominantly agriculture tube well feeders on priority to meet the irrigation need of wheat crop. Pepco sources said the power load on these 400 feeders ranges between 400-1200MW. The prevailing load on these feeders was in the vicinity of 800MW a day earlier.
Pepco officials said the decision to prioritise the tube-well feeders was taken after a request from relevant quarters, suggesting that the wheat crop were in urgent need of irrigation water. Therefore, power supply to these 400 countrywide tube-well feeders is ensured on priority.
However the Pepco officials said, supply of power to these tube-well feeders has least effect on power supply to urban areas. According to them, the country is presently experiencing a shortage of 1700MW power at present, which is likely to be met soon as canals resume normal flow of water by the end of the month.
