The National Institute of Cultural Studies (NICS) will start a series of art workshops here from today (Friday). The courses for these workshops include pottery painting, fabric and glass painting, screen and block printing, jewellery, bags and belts designing, paper products and carpet designing.
The workshops will be conducted by the two experts from California, Faisal Akram and Talha at the weekends. Programme Co-ordinator of NICS, Seep Mufti said these workshops will give the students an opportunity to learn professional skills from the leading experts in their respective fields. The main objective of the courses is to invoke the talent of the students through providing them an appropriate channel to use their creative ideas, she added.
With a focus on contemporary needs and the market value, NICS aims to provide rounded educational programmes in the field of culture and a commitment of possible quality in all its activities. Seep Mufti said that extra skills are an essential tool for the students as their regular study is a way to provide information about the relevant field, but additional skills are a component of their training that help them in enhancing their creativity and other artistic skills.
The institute aims at opening the annals of analytical and critical thinking and its programmes are based on quality education, research, freedom of thought, expression and argument. NICS is envisioned as an institution of higher learning, meeting the international contemporary standards of instruction and accomplishment, she said.
