Opposition leaders, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan MNA strongly objected to the reinstatement of over 7,000 public sector employees, who were sacked during 1996-98 questioned the sin of those, who were removed by General Pervez Musharraf from Railway, PIA, Wapda, Pakistan Steel and other institutions and departments.
They said on Friday that the employees, who are being reinstated as per the federal cabinet's decision, were not appointed on merit and their recruitment process was also illegal.
The politicians said that these employees were sacked because they were not qualified and were posing a burden on the national exchequer. 'These employees were given jobs on political basis and they were sacked because they did not deserve the posts they were given,' Hashmi added.
He said that it would put enormous burden on the national exchequer, if these employees were paid salaries for 10 years, although they had been working at other places during this period. Hashmi further asked the reason that why more than 4,000 workers, who were daily wagers and temporary staffers were removed from Utility stores Corporation, 8000 from National internship scheme, 4000 from the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD).
If the Government claims to provide jobs to maximum number of people, he said those being reinstated were recruited in BPS 1-5 on their political affiliations with PPP. Hashmi also said that there was no truth in this claim that the PPP government never rendered people jobless; rather, it provided jobs to the unemployed youth.
