PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Friday said that common man was crushed and punished in the conflict of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and their miseries were increasing day by day. He asked the Punjab government to adhere to democratic behaviour and work to address the masses' problems, instead of playing politics.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday Elahi said that differences between the PPP and the PML-N were being used as a means to achieve personal benefits. He said personal differences of the leaderships of both parties were being depicted as political disparities, and both the province and the federation were suffering as a result.
Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that there was dire need of consensus on repealing the 17th amendment and its good clauses should remain intact. He said that artificial dearness and price hike was a result of government policy and IMF conditions.
He said, "we were providing Petrol at Rs 60 per litre when its international price had surged to $147 per barrel. But now it reduced to the lowest level of $39 per barrel but petrol was being sold at Rs 58 per litre. We were providing branded vegetable Ghee and cooking oil on Rs 70 to 80 per kg when edible oil, soya bean and palm-oil was available at $1400 per ton but now it fell to $360 per ton but consumer were forced to purchase this commodity at Rs 120 to 125 per kg.
He said,"we had spent Rs 117 billion in five years on the development of southern Punjab, which is a land of Prime Ministers (Mir Balakh Sher Mazari, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, President Farooq Leghari, Governors Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar, Makhdoom Sajjad Hussain Qureshi, Sardar Zulfikar Ali Khan Khosa, Mushtaq Ahmed Gurmani, Chief Ministers and many ministers. While only Rs 17 billion were spent during last two tenures of PPP and PML-N.
Elahi said that A bridge was constructed on river Chenab with an estimated cost of Rs one billion, A modern cardiology institute was built with an estimated cost of Rs 1250 million, Emergency ward of Nishtar Medical College was expanded, a Burn centre was established, projects of a trauma centre, District Head Quarter Hospital, Children complex, Southern and Northern By-pass, college of home economics, women university Aimen wala bridge, Head Muhammadwala bridge were approved. He said that present regime could not execute even single project during last ten months.
