US copper futures rose at the open Friday, buoyed by a firmer tone in the broader metals complex and optimism in front of anticipated economic stimulus plan action in the US. Copper for March delivery rose 1.80 cents to $1.4140 a lb by 10:38 am EST (1538 GMT) on the New York Mercantile Exchange's COMEX division.
The session range from $1.4560 to a three-week low at $1.3730. Copper upside momentum fuelled by strong gains in London base metals complex, with nickel rallying nearly 9 percent to a session peak at $11,987 a tonne.
