Kenya's shilling was flat against the dollar in volatile trade on Friday, recovering from falls following the appointment of a new finance minister. The commercial banks were quoting the local currency at 79.75/85, the same as Thursday's closing price, with traders saying many players had stopped trading after they exhausted their trading limits.
Dealers said the market had shrugged off President Mwai Kibaki's appointment of his ally Uhuru Kenyatta as finance minister of east Africa's biggest economy.
