Hotels in twin-cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have started charging Rs 10 for a cup of tea. The recent rise in price of tea, the most consumable refreshment item in the country, has added woes to the worries of poor people in the twin-cities.
The hotel owners have raised the price of a cup of tea from Rs 7 to 10 at their own. An employee at local hotel of Abpara market Samar Shah said that it is the responsibility of concerned authorities to take the price hike with hotel owners who do it at their own.
He said that he himself likes to take tea adding that he takes almost four to five cups of tea daily to keep himself fresh but now it is difficult for him even to afford tea at a price of Rs 10. Another labour working near Peshawar More said the tea is also out of his reach now as its price touches Rs 10 now.
A tea consumer said that the cheaper hotel still charge just Rs 8 for a single cup of tea but the market hotel charges Rs 10 which very difficult for people to afford. A hotel owner at Sitara Market said that due to rise in prices of tea, milk and sugar we are forced to raise rate of a cup of tea.
