Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan on Tuesday directed the concerned authorities to start construction of three bridges costing Rs 131.178 billion within two weeks.
He was talking to mediamen after a high-level meeting which was arranged on a call attention notice by Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, on the advice of National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and attended by Mian Riaz Pirzada, MNA, Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, MNA, Peer Muhammad Aslam Bodla, MNA and Ms Mehreen Bhutto, Parliamentary Secretary for Health.
The Minister of State for Communications Chaudhry Imtiaz Safdar Warriach and Chaudhry Saeed Iqbal, Parliamentary Secretary for Communications were also present in the meeting. Dr Arbab Alamgir said four more bridges have been planned to be constructed on Indus Highway. He said that the government is introducing the dynamic changes in the communication system of the country. He said that we intend to enhance the living standards of the people along with the development of the country. He said people voted us to power and their development is our prime concern.
During the meeting he directed the concerned authorities to start construction of three bridges in two weeks at the cost of Rs 131.178 billions, whereas, the expenditure will be borne by the NHA from its own sources. During the meeting a briefing was given to the minister by Chaudhry Altaf Ahmed, Chairman NHA. He said that the funds for the construction of three bridges have been arranged and the work would start soon. However, the Minister for Communications has directed that the construction of these three bridges must be started in two weeks.
The cost of these three bridges ie Rs 131.178 billion has already been sanctioned. The minister also directed the authorities to present a weekly progress report of these bridges. The minister also ordered to prepare PC-1 of the remaining four bridges on priority basis. During the meeting Peer Muhammad Aslam Bodla, MNA requested to change the position of toll plaza near Mian Chunnu and the minister ordered the NHA Chairman to visit the place with the MNA and submit a report in a fortnight.
