'The ruling alliance will soon fall victim to their 'personal interests' but the PML-Q always supports and wishes that the current assemblies should complete their constitutional tenure of five years.' The Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i Azam) (PML-Q) leader, Chawdhry Perwaiz Elahi said.
Talking to a group of leaguers headed by Mehr Sarfraz and Rana Muhammad Hafeez on Sunday, the former Punjab Chief Minister said that his party did not believe in one-party rule and it was the reason, that it decided to sit in the opposition benches on the very first day.
'The PML-Q is playing the role of an effective and responsible opposition as the opposition and the treasury were part and parcel of democracy, because strong opposition guarantees a strong democratic set-up,' he said. Elahi termed it very unfortunate that those parliamentarians, who availed of ministries in the tenure of the PML-Q, were now trying to sell their loyalties and to join the forward bloc.
He said those who were instigating these members to indulge themselves in any undemocratic practices were equally responsible for causing damage to the democratic institutions. Further, 'Till now, 16 members of the PML-Q had joined the forward bloc, but their steps were dishonest and against their voters and the democracy.'
To a query about the new set-up, he said he foresaw elections in the next couple of months and if that happened, the PML-Q would clean sweep the polls. Further, he criticised the PML-N leaders for trying to sabotage the understanding between the leadership of the PPP and the Aiwan-e-Sadr, as creating confrontation between institutions was harmful to the parliamentary system. To another query, he said that he would keep a close vigil on the policies and development projects in Punjab while staying at the centre and would see what the government would do with the development projects of the PML-Q.
'The ruling alliance would meet a strong opposition in Punjab,' he maintained. Talking about Balochistan, he said it was unfortunate that the opposition parties were now forming the government in the province, which, he said, was against the spirit of democracy.
