Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday lifted ban on hiring and recruiting people for government services, and disbanded the task force on employment. The decision to disband the task force came within days of the dismissal of its Director General, Ghulam Qadir Jamot in the wake of reported complaints that the task force was sending its own list to ministries and divisions for new appointments.
Some ministries had dumped the lists forwarded by the task force while a few had resisted the list and also brought the issue to the notice of Prime Minister, it is learnt.
The Prime Minister, who had faced imprisonment for a period of five year during Musharraf rule from 2001 to 2006 in a case of illegal government appointments, said the task force had been dissolved to ensure merit and transparency in the running of the government. "All government departments are to perform their role regarding recruitment and hiring as per their existing delegated legal powers and authority through open advertisement and fair competition," said a statement issued by PM House.
The decision had been taken to avoid corruption and nepotism, and to promote merit and transparency to guarantee good governance across the board. After dissolution of the task force, all departments will follow hiring and recruitment as per prescribed procedures, rules and policy, the statement said. It further said that this decision had been taken to ensure effective monitoring and supervision by the ministries and to make them more effective and responsible.
