UN condemns abduction, killing of UNHCR officials

The United Nations on Tuesday conveyed its shock over the death of one of its employees and abduction of another. A statement from the UN Information Centre reacted to death of Syed Hashim, driver of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and abduction of head of the UNHCR Office in Quetta John Solecki.
"We condemn this attack on humanitarian workers in Pakistan, who have been doing their utmost to deliver their humanitarian mission," the statement said. "The families of both staff members have been contacted to convey our deepest sympathy to the family of Syed Hashim and to express our concern and solidarity with Solecki's family," it added. The United Nations is now taking all possible measures to secure his release.
