The government would use all possible resources to modernise the Motorway Police for ensuring safety of commuters through public awareness campaigns and observing merit in recruitment. This was stated by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in a meeting with Khalid Farooq, Inspector General National Highways and Motorways Police who called on him at the PM House on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister called for better rescue and ambulance facilities to minimise the rate of causalities in case of road accidents. Gilani underlined the need of observing merit and transparency making the institution an example for others to follow, adding that merit and courtesy should be the hallmark of Motorway Police.
He also stressed the need for state of the art in-service training and capacity-building of the employees to further improve their efficiency. The Inspector General briefed the Prime Minister on various initiatives of the department to ensure road safety and provide timely relief to the people in case of emergency.
