Sindh Home Minister, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza, has directed concerned authorities to establish separate Police Station for Site industrial area by 18 February 2009. He also ordered to arrest the criminals involved in extortion of money, kidnapping for ransom and killing cases along side to increase patrolling activities and effective vigilance.
He gave these orders during a meeting with a delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), he extended his co-operation and support to business community and assured that he will convene meetings with KCCI in future for mutual co-operation and liaison with the law enforcement agencies.
Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak, IGP informed about the scarcity of manpower, funds and infrastructure. Waseem Ahmed, CCPO also gave presentation about the functioning of police department.
Former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli, demanded to improve law and order situation being the prime responsibility of Govt., he recalled that in the meeting with President of Pakistan, President directed Rehman Malik, Advisor to PM for Interior to provide 50 new Police Mobiles and 10 APC for Karachi, which is not honoured till date. He urged to redress the scarcity of Infrastructure, Manpower and Vehicles for the progress of police department.
President KCCI Anjum Nisar informed the Home Minister about the deteriorating law and order situation and issues related to trade and industries in particular. He demanded separate Police Stations for five industrial zones of Karachi.
He said that unrest and turbulence in law & order discourages investment opportunities and Govt. must provide safety and security to the investors and their investments. He emphasised the need for compilation of criminal database for which KCCI may support police department.
Former President KCCI Zubair Motiwala has draw his attention to Home Minister and high police officials about some unscrupulous criminals disguised as police and FIA officials, and burgle money from traders who arrive to Karachi from interior Sindh and Punjab at Cantt Railway Station and intercity bus terminals, while searching, they harass the traders, takeaway their money and such extortion of money is in practice. Increased kidnapping for ransom and illegal extortion of money is biggest menace.
He commented on killing cases in New Vegetable and Fruit Market where few political workers established their offices in the boundary-wall and market area and have created unrest, which must be shifted outside the market.
He demanded to install security and vigilance cameras in Jodia Bazaar and Cloth Market where millions of rupee transactions occurred daily. Bus Stop outside KCCI building at Shahrah-e-Liaquat, creating traffic-jam in peak hours must be shifted in view of frequent arrival of high Govt and private sector dignitaries.
He urged for the positive role of press and electronic media to portray the positive picture of Pakistan, broadcasting of commotional events, which depict negative image of Pakistan globally, which also results in hesitation of foreign investors to visit Pakistan.
Former President KCCI, Tahir Khaliq informed about the hijacking and burglary of goods distribution vehicles of companies. He demanded stern action against land grabbers who are encroaching the vacant plots. Former President KCCI, Haroon Farooki informed that since last four consecutive months, an organised gang of criminals is hijacking the trucks loaded with textile goods, which arrive at Landhi Industrial Area from Site & KIA.
At Quaidabad flyover, the gang of dacoits, disguised as police, take away the trucks loaded with textile goods at gunpoint and police failed to arrest the criminals and recovery of snatched textile goods. Goods delivery vehicles of distribution companies are also have been looted at the said junction. Such events are also common in Site, KIA and other industrial zones for which police must take strict actions.
Executive Committee Member and Chairman Law & Order Sub-Committee of KCCI Younus Bashir said that lower grade police staff does not co-operate with business community and due to their non-co-operative attitude people hesitate to lodge complaints and FIR.
KCCI has maintained 6 police vans 25 motorcycles, which are already provided to police department and they ensured their support. Delegation also proposed to stop and discontinue the unregistered prepaid mobile SIMs.-PR
