Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Anjum Nisar has drawn the attention of Sindh government to streamline the infrastructure of existing industrial zones here on Thursday. In a communication to the government, he said that existing industrial zones still lack the basic amenities such as water, power, gas, sewerage, telephone system, roads, fire brigades and others.
He said that there are power outages and water shortages in the industrial zones. Adding that industrial sector also lacks its own dedicated fire brigades. Fire fighting equipment is obsolete and state of art modern fire fighting technology is required. KCCI president pointed out that last year many industrial units faced colossal losses in fire incidents due to outdated and damaged fire-fighting technology.
Provision of water, improved electricity and communications system is essential in the industrial areas. Dedicated state of art fire brigade stations must be established in all industrial estates of Karachi. The chamber president also raised the issue of traffic mess around KCCI building during rush hours.
He pointed out that federal and provincial ministers, high government officials, foreign dignitaries and foreign and local businessmen frequently visit KCCI. He demanded that the bus stop outside KCCI building must be abolished and a traffic police official must be permanently deputed at the stop to control and streamline the flow of traffic on Shahrah-e-Liaquat.
