The Punjab Chief Minister's provincial speech competition came to an end with the finalisation of Urdu speech contests at postgraduate level. 88 male and female students of different universities participated in these competitions. Out of them, 54 appeared in Urdu and 34 students participated in English speech competitions.
The Chairman, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranawala, Chawdhry Akram and the Vice Chancellor, Lahore College Women University, Dr Bushra Matin were chief guests of the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Akram said that participants of the contest have discussed current affairs with courage and without any hesitation. 'Their competency shows that they are fully aware of the developments in political and social sectors,' he added. Further, he said that young speakers had set an example for the elders and it could be hoped that new generation is capable of facing the future challenges.
Dr Bushra said, 'We can assess the thoughts of children by hearing their viewpoints and can guide them in building their career.' She proposed that a speech programme should be held monthly in every school and college so that the students can be provided an opportunity to express their views and thoughts in an open atmosphere.
According to result of the post graduate level Urdu competition, six girls and boys students were selected as finalists and will speak again for the decision of position holders on the occasion of prize distribution ceremony of the competition to be presided over by Punjab CM, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
Names of selected students are: S Tammat Zehra of Bahauddin Zakria University, Multan, Saba Ajmal of Lahore College Women University Lahore, Hafza Saeed of Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, Shamama-tul-Amber of College of Advance Scientific Technology Sahiwal, Muhammad Mudassar Iqbal of Punjab University and M Abu Bakar of Bahauddin Zakaria University Multan.
