A 41-year-old Moroccan who was sentenced by a Spanish court for the 2004 Madrid train bombings was Thursday acquitted of other terrorism charges in Morocco, the national news agency MAP reported.Hassan el-Haski is serving a 14-year prison sentence in Spain for having been among the plotters of Spain's biggest terrorist attack, which killed 191 and injured around 1,800 people.
Spain regards el-Haski as one of the leaders of the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group (GICM), which is thought to have links with al Qaeda. Spain extradited el-Haski to Morocco for trial over his possible involvement in the 2003 Casablanca suicide bombings which claimed 45 lives. Prosecutors requested 20 years for el-Haski, who denied involvement in any terrorist activities.
