Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Friday.
EUROPEAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: European stocks ended higher, rallying along with US stocks as investors brushed aside grim US monthly jobs data and scooped up recently beaten-down shares of banks and miners.
World No 2 truckmaker Volvo surged 16 percent despite posting an operating loss in the fourth quarter amid slowing orders, as investors were relieved the company was still able to generate cash in the quarter. The FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares closed 2 percent higher at 826.37 points, posting a gain for the week of 3.7 percent.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 4,644.63 points, up 134.14 or 2.97 percent, adding 306.28 points over the week.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3,122.79 points, up 56.5 or 1.84 percent, up 148.87 points since January 30.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 5,123.09 points, up 16.24 or 0.32 percent, falling 166.96 points from a week ago.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The All Share Mibtel index closed at 14,673 points, up 303 or 2.11 percent, 424 points higher on the week.
SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: Australian shares rose 1.2 percent, as gains in miners offset losses in National Australia Bank and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group after their warnings of higher bad debts. The S&P/ASX 200 index finished up 41.3 points at 3,469.9, down 70.8 points or two percent for the week.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: South African stocks surged, boosted by Thursday's aggressive local interest rate cut and by hopes for a US stimulus package, while the rand firmed to a one-month high. The All-share index closed at 21,435.91 points, up 998.71 or 4.89 percent, up 865.86 points since last Friday.
The All Gold index closed at 2,500.51 points, up 56.25 or 2.30 percent, losing 132.85 points during the week, while the Industrial index closed at 16,414.45 points, up 564.16 or 3.56 percent. Over the last seven days the index gained 337.1 points.
