Federal Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan here on Monday said under the plantation campaign more than 10 million saplings would be planted alongside national highways and motorways across the country. Talking to APP, he said that (NHA) is committed to provide healthy and friendly environment to commuters on national highway and motorways network.
Earlier, the minister formally inaugurated the national tree plantation campaign here at Bahrama Jhang Bahatar interchange where 1000 trees are being planted in collaboration with Beacon House School. NHA is inviting volunteer bodies to come forward and support the noble cause of planting trees along 12,000-KM long National Highways and Motorways to ensure a healthier and safer environment to travellers.
Dr Arbab said that semi-government, national, multinational, educational institutions, civil society organisations and NGOs, could participate in this campaign for the development and prosperity of the country. The overall economic growth of the country is inter-linked with the improved environment and maintaining greenery on the modern lines, he said.
"Greener Pakistan is a way forward to take us towards a future which is both environmental friendly and healthy for our future generations," Arbab added. The minister dedicated 8 acres land at Bahatar interchange to the Beacon House School for planting more and more trees aimed at ensuring pollution free environment alongside the motorway.
