Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that government is considering legislation to change the Thana Culture and introduce measures to provide affordable and speedy justice to the people at their doorsteps. He was talking to a delegation of notables from Multan, which called on him at the PM's House here this evening. Rehman Malik, Advisor to PM on Interior was also present.
The Prime Minister said that ban has been lifted from recruitment in government jobs and the task force on employment has been abolished and powers delegated to the respective ministries as jobs will be provided purely on merit.
The Prime Minister said that the government is paying special attention to promote the education, health, and social sectors to improve the standards of living of common man. He mentioned initiatives taken recently like the Benazir Income Support Programme and other development schemes.
The Prime Minister said that power shortage would be overcome by the end of this year adding that effective policies are being formulated in this regard. Underscoring the importance of the agriculture sector as the backbone of the economy, the Prime Minister said that the prices of wheat and paddy have been fixed to help the growers and diminish the role of the middlemen. He said that infrastructure development is very important to ensure easy access to the farmer to bring their products to the market.
He said that every effort will be made to ensure the availability and judicious distribution of fertiliser in the country. Referring to the launching of various developmental schemes in Multan like the Head Muhammad Wala Bridge, the Prime Minister said that his government would complete all the infrastructure development schemes for uplift of the area. Rehman Malik said that the government will soon launch a scheme to computerise police record. Under this scheme the police station will register the case on computer in the presence of complainants and the copy of FIR would be handed over on the spot to help avoid delays.
The delegation lauded the sagacious leadership of the Prime Minister for steering the country out of crisis. They specially mentioned his role in development of Multan. They applauded the Prime Minister and his cabinet for their stance in the aftermath of Mumbai incident and congratulated him for winning international support for the principal stand of Pakistan.
The delegation also mentioned that Prime Minister said that the gates of Prime Minister House are kept open for the public and it is no more an exclusive place. They thanked the Prime Minister for his keen interest in the development of Multan and other Southern parts of Punjab.-PR
