Pakistan's Ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani has said America wants to increase non military aid for Pakistan by three times under Biden-Lugar initiative which will now become Carry-Lugar initiatives. Talking to VOA, he said Pakistan is engaged with America over energy dialogue and meeting will soon be held while dialogue on co-operation in education sector has started.
He said America wants to expand its relations with Pakistan by these means. He said despite several bills are in the US Congress including a bill on stabilising the American economy, I am confident that Congress will pay attention to Biden-Lugar initiative as soon as it gets time and now the beginning of military aid for Pakistan is a matter of few weeks.
Basically, political, economic and military actions are required against terrorism, so it is wrong to say that military activities will end, but focus on other issues will start surely, he added. Haqqani said the newly appointed Special representative on Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke has gone to the region to get the first hand knowledge about conditions in Pakistan and Afghanistan and to brief the officials of both the neighbouring countries about the stand of America.
He said President Obama and his administration have host of issues under the consideration in which ties with Pakistan are of vital nature. So Pakistan is a strategic partner to US and both have important interests linked with each other. "I think that there will be significant change in American Policy in future as Obama administration is desirous of strengthening democracy in Pakistan, working with democratic government and hearing the opinion of Pakistani officials," he said.
It may be hoped that Pakistan's viewpoint may be accepted that economic aid be provided and political dialogue be started in tribal areas. But talks will not be held with those people who slaughter the people and make video of the murdering events. Military force will continue to be used against them and Pakistan and America are united on this point that such people should be punished.
