US Special Envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke paid a visit to Punjab Governor Salman Taseer here on Thursday and exchanged views on prevailing political situation in Punjab, terrorism, education and agriculture. According to sources, on the occasion, the Punjab governor briefed the envoy that Punjab was being run by an alliance government of PML-N and PPP.
He also said that Punjab has an agro-based economy and hence a lot of work was being done for its improvement. "The Punjab government had also focussed on education and was making visible efforts to make quality education accessible to everyone," he added. He requested the guest to enhance the quota of Fulbright scholarship, which was given for higher education.Richard Holbrooke commended the efforts of the Punjab government and assured him of the US continuos support for the Punjab government. He also assured him of increasing the quota.
He was of the view that spread of education was the key in confronting the menace of terrorism, which had plagued the world. "Pakistan is a key partner in the war against terrorism and the US was committed to extend full support to the country," he added. Richard Holbrooke was accompanied by a nine-member delegation, including US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson.
