An election tribunal headed by judge of the Lahore High Court here on Thursday adjourned the proceedings pertaining to an election petition against the MPA and former provincial minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed till March 04. The tribunal also asked the petitioner to submit proposed issues till the next date of hearing.
Waqar Ahmad Chaudhry, who was a PML-N candidate lost election against Dr Tahir from PP-133, Narowal moved the petition. He alleged that during the general election there was brawl between supporters of different candidates and the case was lodged against supporter of the winner.
He further said due to law and order situation the returning officer had requested the election commission to postponed the election but this request was not accepted and polling was held which gave benefit to Dr Tahir. He also alleged Dr Tahir who was a minister during the previous government and used his influence because of which his (petitioner) 1100 votes were rejected and he lost election. He said Niamat Ali, father of Dr Javed, was district nazim of Narowal and used state machinery in favour of his son in winning his election.
He said that the district police officer fully supported Dr Javed and harassed his voters. He said on the election day Dr Javed's supporters involved in rigging and forcefully removed ballot boxes from various polling stations. He said the DPO also lodged faked FIRs against hundreds of voters of his opponent candidates. He submitted that he also complained the returning officer about illegalities committed by supporters of Dr Javed but no step was taken against him.
