Steady trend was seen on the interbank market on Thursday as the rupee did not show any change against dollar for buying and selling at 79.45 and 79.50, market men said. Demand for dollars was strong and supply was also there, which enabled the rupee not to drift any side, they said.
In the fourth session of Asian trade yen rose against other major currencies in safe-haven trades, with investors avoiding risk as Japanese share prices fell on disappointment over financial rescue plans in the United States.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained its overnight levels against dollar for buying and selling at 79.20 and 79.50, they said. Meanwhile the rupee failed to retain its overnight gains against euro, falling 20 paisa for buying at Rs 102.00, it, however, gained 80 paisa for selling at Rs 103.00, they said.
