Sindh Director General Health Services Dr Abdul Sattar Korai said on Thursday that the government is fully aware of health problems of the people and it is trying its very best to meet the requirements. This he said while speaking as Chief Guest at Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Sir Cowasji Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry, Hyderabad.
He assured the hospital administration his utmost support in providing quality and quantity treatment to the patients. Senior Psychiatrist Dr Abdul Hameed Memon said that despite limited resources the Sir C J Institute was making tremendous contribution towards providing psychiatric treatment to the people of the province and mental health services to rural population.
Dr Darya Khan Laghari said that "due to insufficient funds the institute faces financial problems and we have only Rs 200,000 to provide medicines to the patients of Sindh and Balochistan. Renowned Psychiatrist Professor Dr Syed Jamil Hussain said that there were shortage of the psychiatrists in the province and many districts had no psychiatrists and it was the need of the hour to start child psychiatry unit in the institute.
He claimed that Sir C. J. Institute was the third largest institute in South Asia and the institute was producing qualified psychiatrists to cope with the growing number of patients. Professor Dr Jan Muhammad Memon said that psychiatry patients were increasing day by day and the doctors concerned must find the solution to the problems.
