"The system developed by Nadra for issuance of machine-readable passport is working efficiently in Kenya and around 85,000 passports have been issued to Kenyan residents using this system so far", said Gerald Otieno Kajwang, Kenyan Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons during a Kenyan delegation's visit to Nadra Headquarter Islamabad.
He added that in March 2007, his government had awarded the contract to Nadra to design, develop and implement machine-readable passport project after a comprehensive pre-qualification and tendering process. Nadra implemented the project on time and within the budget, seeing the efficiency of Nadra Government of Kenya has shown its interest in Nadra's CNIC project also.
"We need technical expertise and exchange of best practices acquired by Nadra", added Kenyan Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons. On the occasion Deputy Chairman Nadra said that "Kenya and Pakistan share the same cultural, political, and security challenges so it is natural that we share each other's experiences and improve service delivery using proven technological solutions.
The delegation was given detailed presentation on various national and international projects implemented by Nadra, especially its capabilities in implementing the Multi-Biometric National Identity Card Project and Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) in Pakistan.
Participants were briefed that citizens' database maintained by Nadra is not only geared to support its own existing products but also is a validated reservoir for providing useful statistical and planning information of Pakistani citizens to various government agencies as well as commercial organisations-PR
