The government has decided to establish facilitation centres at the district level to facilitate people in getting vehicles registered, renewal of driving licenses and carrying out motor vehicle examination. A meeting was held here on Thursday with NWFP Minister for Finance Engineer Mohammad Humayun Khan at the Conference Room of the Finance Department.
During the meeting, the minister expressed concern over the difficulties being faced by the people in getting and renewing their driving licences and to arrange examination and registration of their vehicles. The minister said that the offices were not located under a single roof and people had to face numerous problems while going from one office to the other.
A high-level committee was set up which would be headed by the Director General Excise and Taxation, NWFP with the AIG Traffic, Director Transport, Motor Vehicle Examiner, RTA Secretary and DCO and EDO (Finance) of the concerned districts as members. The meeting gave the committee task with strict directives to implement the same within a month.
The task of the committee is to establish offices of the concerned officers within the district headquarters where the DCO and other EDOs are working. For this purpose the committee will be responsible to arrange offices in official or private rented buildings first in the regional headquarters and later in all the 24 districts.
It was also decided that the offices should be on ground floor so that people could not face hardships in approaching the concerned staff. It was decided that the committee would work out a solid strategy for establishing the facilitation centers with extending the network throughout the province.
In the first phase the regional headquarters would be worked out. Engineer Mohammad Humayun Khan told the participants that the government wants to provide facilities to general public and to lessen their burden while carrying out different activities.
