The rupee continued its slide against dollar on the interbank market at the weekend, losing 10 paisa for buying and selling at 79.70 and 79.75, dealers said. Rising demand for dollar did not allow the rupee to hold it's obtaining levels, they said. In the NY market dollar climbed against yen, boosted by bets that Group of Seven finance chiefs may single out the Japanese currency for excessive strength at this weekend's meeting.
The US currency was also bolstered against yen by optimism about a government programme to subsidise mortgages for homeowners even as investors shifted their focus to the gathering of Group of Seven monetary officials in Rome.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained its overnight levels against dollar for buying at 79.30 and selling at 79.70, they said. Meanwhile, the rupee gained 50 paisa versus euro for buying and selling at Rs 102.00 and Rs 104.00, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee marginally improved and gained five paisa on buying side and ten paisa on selling side in relation to dollar in Lahore currency market on Saturday. Moneychangers said that dollar trading Rs 79.45 and Rs 78.80 as buying and selling rates, respectively, and closed lower at Rs 79.40 and Rs 79.70, respectively.
Similarly, the rupee recovered some of its earlier against pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates slipped from Rs 114.50 and Rs 116.00 to Rs 114.00 and Rs 115.00, respectively, moneychangers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar was plus by 10 paisa against rupee at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday. The dollar opened at Rs 79.20 (buying) and Rs 79.30 (selling) against last rate of Rs 79.10 (buying) and Rs 79.20 (selling) against last rate of Rs 79 (buying) and Rs 79.10 (selling).
It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 79.20 (buying) and Rs 79.30 (selling). Pound sterling opened at Rs 114.50 (buying) and Rs 115.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 114.50 (buying) and Rs 115.50 (selling).
