A Persian scholar Dr N.B.G. Kazi has said that German scholars have contributed a lot in promotion of Islamic Studies through research as well as in translation of many Islamic books. He was delivering a lecture on Contribution of German Scholars in Islamic Studies organised by Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Sindh on Monday.
Dr Kazi who had served in Sindh University as Professor of Persian and nowadays residing in Germany, said that even in modern days, universities of Germany have set up chairs of Arabic and Persian language to do research.
He said that German scholars research work on Islamic studies is continuing and their contribution is highly appreciable. He said that translation of Holy Quran is basic work, which had been done by the German scholars and added that apart from Islamic works the German scholars have also contributed research on music, geography and other topics. He said that majority of European vocabulary comprised of the Arabic, Persian and Turkish words.
Dr Kazi also lauded research work of Dr Annemarie Schimmel on Sufism and Sufi poets and added that in recent period, contribution of Dr Schimmel is unforgettable. Professor Kazi also highlighted translation and original work of the various scholars related to Islamic Studies. Sindh University Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui speaking on the occasion lauded lecture of Professor Kazi and said that German scholars had introduced research to the scholars in Western world.
He said that philosophy of Islam is for the peace and labelling to Muslims as terrorist is unjustified and injustice and added that Muslims are treated very unjustified. He said that people must understand that philosophy of Islam is peace and added that Muslim society has foundation in pursuit of knowledge and justice. Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Dr Sanaullah Bhutto, Dr M. Yakoob Mughal and other scholars also spoke.
