Relief for IDPs discussed

A high level meeting of the relief agencies and concerned government departments regarding the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was held at the office of Afghan Refugees Commission here on Monday. Provincial Relief Commissioner Jameel Amjad chaired the meeting while representatives of national and international Relief Agencies and the line departments were also present on the occasion.
The participants discussed the relief situation for the IDPs in different parts of the Province and made various decisions to further streamline the process and improve the relief provision to the concerned people. On this occasion it was decided to provide relief and necessities of life to those 45,000 families who are living off camp, either with their relatives or otherwise.
It is to be mentioned that more than 44,000 families are registered in different camps, established by the government for these IDPs belonging to Swat, Bajaur and other affected areas of Fata. They were provided basic amenities of life by different government departments and donor agencies with the co-ordination of Social Welfare Department, NWFP.
The meeting was told that 5,000 packets of food items and other necessities were provided by World Food Programme, 2,000 by government of Punjab and huge number by provincial govt. to the affected persons, while further 4,000 packets of the same kinds would be sent to Malakand by today (Tuesday) and the same would be further distributed to the IDPs living in different parts of the Malakand Division.
On this occasion provision of health and education facilities at different camps were also discussed and further improvement in these sectors were approved. The meeting also decided to include the IDPs living in Kohat district besides Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera to the ongoing programme.
The situation at the Extended Delivery Points was also discussed and complaints about these points were examined thoroughly and it was decided to introduce a uniform scale for the relief items at all EDPs so that all the concerned families could get equal share of the relief items.
