Provincial Minister for Agriculture Arbab Muhammad Ayub Jan has expressed great concern over shortage of urea fertilisers in NWFP saying that if 300,000 tonnes of urea fertilisers were not provided to the province the production of wheat, maize and vegetables would be adversely affected.
He stated this while talking to delegations of farmers and growers at his residence on Monday. Agri Minister said that if the problem of fertilisers dearth was not sorted out, the province would fail to achieve the targets of wheat and other agricultural products.
He said that the Agricultural Department would level the ground of 200,000 acres of cultivable land through tractors and bulldozers in a bid to bring green revolution in the Province and generate employment opportunities for the people. He said that 25 bulldozers were being exported from China at a cost of Rs 60 million to level the uneven grounds in the Province and to prepare it for cultivation.
Arbab Ayub Jan said that 48 per cent of fruits of country were grown in NWFP adding that orchards of grapes, almonds, walnuts, oranges and apples would be raised in Province in March.
Moreover, he went on to add that agri-loans were provided to the farmers through one-window operation in NWFP and informed that hydro-project with a capacity of 70 megawatt power generation was also on cards with a view to provide electricity at cheap rates to the farmers community. Provincial Minister said that the Federal Government has been contacted to release Rs 900 million for construction of concrete watercourses in the Province that would help protect wastage of irrigational water.
