The drainage system and streets established during the British era in Parachinar, headquarters of Kurram Agency, have been rehabilitated. More than 60,000 populations residing in three sub-divisions would benefit from recently completed schemes.
Political authorities of Kurram Agency said that both schemes were completed at more a cost of more than Rs 3.6 million. A press release issued by FATA secretariat on Monday says that Political Administration of Kurram agency prioritised the drainage system and pavements of streets of main Parachinar city to show government's commitment to the uplift of the people.
"British government had developed and constructed all the streets and drains in Parachinar city before independence of Pakistan. Since then no rehabilitation work had been done, which resulted in deplorable conditions and caused a lot of miseries to local inhabitants", press release added while quoting an official of Kurram Agency. It further said that buildings in the area were in a danger, walls of the houses had also been severely affected due to seepage.
During the past one year clashes between two rival groups, frequents rocket attacks and bombing had caused huge damages to sanitation system. According to the press release, local labourers were involved to execute the schemes which were completed in a short period.
Political agent, Kurram agency Arshad Majeed formally inaugurated the schemes. Political officials, local elders and people were also present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering Arshad Majid stressed upon the people to be united. He said "people should shun their differences and play their role for the uplift of the area which will lead to a durable peace in the tribal areas. And ultimately would bring a peaceful environment and harmony in the country".
