Nizam-e-Adl Regulation in Malakand: apprehension of Nato based on speculation: foreign office

Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit on Thursday said that the apprehension of Nato about enforcement of Nizam-e-Adl Regulation in Malakand division are merely based on speculations.
During his weekly press briefing, the spokesman said that the proposed Nizam-e-Adl Regulation is being enforced in certain parts of the NWFP, which it is a part of the three-pronged strategy of the government for tackling militancy to restore peace and maintain writ of the government and any reservation about the regulations based on mere speculation.
He further said that the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation is completely conditional to peace and writ of the government in the area. The spokesman said that government would use all its resources to restore the writ of the government and peace in the restive areas.
To a question he expressed his ignorance about any reservation raised by any specific country on the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation. Commenting on the proposed US security strategy for combating militancy in Pakistan and Afghanistan, he said that US is formulating a new policy and Pakistan team led by foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi would soon visit Washington in this regard. He added that it is expected that the new policy would bring a positive change as far as the peace and stability is concerned.
About President Asif Ali Zardari's visit to China, starting on February 20, the spokesman said that it will promote economic and trade relations between the two countries as the visit is part of his quarterly visit to China to explore economic co-operation."
During his three-day long visit, he said, the President would visit Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, Yichang and Shanghai, the regions that are industrial hubs of China to observe country's development in agriculture, use of hybrid seeds, science and technology. Responding to a question the spokesman said that he is unaware of the visit of any CIA team to Pakistan to interrogate the people arrested in connection with the Mumbai attacks.
To a question, the spokesman referred to the statement of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani that Pakistan would prefer to send an FIA team to India for investigation of Mumbai terrorist attacks. Basit said that Pakistan is waiting for positive response from Indian side on the questions it forwarded regarding Mumbai attacks.
The spokesman said that Pakistan strongly believes in settling the regional disputes with India through dialogue and negotiations, saying that there is no room for war between the two countries as both are not in a position to bear it. He also said that a new approach with complete and comprehensive framework is essential to settle the regional issues and any partial strategy would not be workable in resolving the disputes.
