Senior Minister Punjab, Raja Riaz Ahmad has said the government is working to bring greater equity and accessibility in justice services for the vulnerable by improving the efficiency, timeliness and effectiveness in judicial services.
For that purpose, comprehensive reforms are in progress focusing on strengthening of the state institutions so that the popular democracy could effectively serve the downtrodden and the poor. He said that a sum of Rs 320 million is being utilised under "Access to Justice Programme" during the current fiscal year for the execution of 54 different development schemes. He was talking to a representative delegation of lawyers, which called on him at his office, here Saturday.
Raja Riaz maintained that democracy ensures equal opportunities for all and the government is committed to deliver to the masses at their doorsteps so that the living standard of the poor could be alleviated through sustained reforms.
Briefing the delegation, he informed that Rs 32 million for the construction of jail barracks in Gujranwala, Rs 42 million for barracks in Multan jail, Rs 109 million for residential portion of district jail Okara, Rs 85 million for district jail Pakpattan and another amount of Rs 277 million is being spent on the non-residential portion of district jail Okara. He said that the government is striving to improve jail conditions by providing necessary facilities and training opportunities to the jail inmates so that they could become useful citizens of the society.
