Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan has said that parliament always plays vital role for the promotion of democratic values in the society besides strengthening of democratic system of government.
Talking to a batch of 40 postgraduate students of Institute of Communication Studies, Punjab University during their visit to the Punjab Assembly on Sunday, he said that Punjab Assembly is the oldest assembly of the country, which has produced national leaders.
Secretary Assembly Maqsood Ahmad Malik, Dr Malik Aftab Maqbool Joiya, Special Secretary and Director General, Research and Parliamentary Affairs, Inayat Ullah Lakh were also present.
He said first time in the political history of the country, credit goes to this assembly for taking lead in adopting a unanimous resolution against a dictator which ultimately forced him to quit. He said prime function of the assembly world over is to enact important fresh legislation and further amendments in existing law in the house. He said that proceedings of the house were being governed strictly in accordance with the laid down rules of the procedure of the assembly.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said that by law, he is custodian of the house and the rights of all the members of the house were not only fully protected but also safeguarded effectively. He said he belongs to a political family, which always believed in service of the human being.
He said that first time in the history of the assembly, opposition leaders and all its members were given maximum time for taking part in debate in the house. He said democracy would be further strengthened in country in the days to come.
He said, "the political leadership is fully committed to transform the country as per vision of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and father of the nation Qauid-i-Azam Muhamad Ali Jinnah". He said golden principle of "Unity, Faith and Discipline" will be strictly adhered to in every sphere of life". Earlier, the students led by visiting faculty member Dr Waqar Chaudhry visited the library and different sections of the assembly.
Muhammad Yousuf and Nida Fatima on behalf of students thanked the speaker for briefing and providing an ample opportunity to learn about the working of the assembly.
