The 20th Karachi City Marathon and Health walk was held here on Sunday under the auspices of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA). The Naib Nazim of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Nasreen Jalil, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, she declared that health is the basic right of the people. Jalil pointed out that it is the responsibility of the governments to provide resources for this. Naib Nazim said that the CDGK has spent a huge amount of money towards streamlining the infrastructure and construction of road network in the metropolis.
Jalil added that the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital has been upgraded into one of the best hospitals. She said that holding of such marathons and walks help foster awareness among the masses. Naib Nazim said that the awareness would help them avail the facilities that are being made available in the health sector.
The secretary of the PMA Karachi, Dr Samrinah Hashmi said that the marathon and walk was also aimed at fostering brotherhood and cohesion as well as awareness regarding health. The Naib Nazim of the CDGK inaugurated the marathon and walk and released balloons in the air on the occasion.
