Lower buying activity on the commodity wholesale markets, to some extent impacted by world trend, pushed prices down during the week ended on February 21, 2009. Wheat prices leading the fall. The fluctuations were not many, more so, in early days. However, on the opening day wheat and rice showed softening trend, also indicating commodity seekers were a few.
Speaking about wheat old and new with bardana, according market people continued low after losing Rs 50 to Rs 2550 and Rs 2565. Sugar facing volatility due to government move and millers determined to stick to their guns. Sugar lost Rs 40 to Rs 3860, Gur was quoted down at Rs 3300 to Rs 3800 while Khandsari a most sought after alternative was quoted at Rs 3500 and Rs 3600. Irri 6 Sindh was quoted down at Rs 2800 while the other kind was quoted at Rs 2850.
On Tuesday wheat sustained losses as wheat old and new further weakened by Rs 50 to Rs 2500 while the other type was quoted higher at Rs 2515. Urad Burma inferior type shed Rs 50 to Rs 1700 while the better type was quoted at Rs 2000, grams from Australia closed lower by Rs 100 to Rs 3700 while the better one was quoted higher at Rs 3900, gram dal from Australia shed same amount to Rs 4400 while the other type was quoted higher at Rs 4600, yellow peas from Canada was down Rs 50 to Rs 2650 better type was quoted at Rs 2800 and yellow peas dal from Canada shed same amount to Rs 2900 while the other type was quoted at Rs 3050.
On Wednesday commodities wholesale markets witnessed no hectic buying thus reporting no fluctuations. However on Jodia Bazaar jute good twine (per kg) 20x3 Brown rose by Rs 2 to Rs 60, 16x3 CRT Indus ended higher by Rs 2 to Rs 60, 8x3 was quoted at Rs 85, and 40x2 brown however moved lower by 50 paisa to Rs 52.50. Hessian Cloth (per 91.44 meters 45x10 Amin quoted at Rs 2350 and 45x11 at Rs 2450.
On Thursday variations were quite a few on both sides of the counter. Wheat sustained losses as it lost Rs 50 old with bardana to Rs 2450, while the better type was quoted down at Rs 2465, grams Australia shed Rs 200 to Rs 3500 while the better type was quoted at Rs 3700, gram dal Australia lost Rs 100 to Rs 4200 while better shed Rs 200 to RS 4200, Irri 9 Sindh shed Rs 100 to Rs 3100 while the other was quoted at RS 3200, Irri 6 Sindh shed Rs 50 to RS 2750 while better type was quoted at Rs 2800, basmati No 386 lost Rs 300 to Rs 700 while the other quality was quoted at Rs 3800, gur better type shed Rs 100 to Rs 3700 while the other type was quoted at Rs 3300, Khandsari better type also shed Rs 100 to Rs 3700. Rapeseed also showed weaker trend. Dadulane low type lost Rs 75 to Rs 1575 while the other type lost Rs 100 to Rs 1600, til however depicted rising trend and scaled up by Rs 100 to Rs 2800 while better type was quoted at Rs 3100.
On jodia Bazaar Kirana item turned lower, white pepper was quoted at Rs 14800, black pepper from Singapore closed lower by Rs 100 to Rs 8200, sago turned lower by Rs 50 to RS 1750 and darchini moved lower by Rs 150 to Rs 3900.
On Friday no transaction took place as the market players were engaged in preparation for Juma prayers.
On Jodia Bazaar chemical items moved up.
The changes were: CHEMICALS (Per kg):
Caustic soda flakes Saudi was quoted at Rs 51 and sodium sulphate finished higher by 50 paisa to Rs 10.50.
HYDROSULPHITE: China 88 percent closed up by 80 paisa to Rs 80 and India moved upward by Rs 2 to Rs 81.
On Saturday falling trend attracted the buyers and they were tempted to cover the immediate needs. Wheat old and new (with bag) lost Rs 50 to Rs 2400-2415. Sugar gained Rs 90 to Rs 3950, gur low type, however, shed Rs 100 to Rs 3200, better type maintained the overnight level at Rs 3700. Bajra low type shed Rs 25 to Rs 4500 and good type was stayed put at Rs 2500.
