MPA's disqualification case: speaker Punjab Assembly to decide matter, LHC told
Speaker Punjab Assembly would decide the matter of disqualification of PML-Q MPA, Saba Sadiq, within two days if petitioner files a representation before him.
This was told to Lahore High Court (LHC) in a petition filed by leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly and PML-Q secretary general Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din, seeking directions for the Speaker to refer a reference to election commission for the disqualification of Saba Sadiq for defecting the party.
Attorney General Pakistan (AGP) and Advocate General Punjab were asked to advance their arguments on the matter, however, they could not appear before the court due to their grave engagement in Sharif brothers' case pending before Supreme Court.
The court with the consent of petitioner's counsel deferred the hearing with an observation that the court would resume the matter on Feb 27 again if the Speaker failed to decide the representation of the petitioner. Petitioner approached the court after the Speaker PA declined to send disqualification reference against PML-Q MPA Saba Sadiq's to CEC. Earlier, court had disposed of the same petition while directing the petitioner to file reference again before the Speaker after removing the objection for which the same was not forwarded to election commission.
